Manchester United are considering a significant transfer bid for Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani after his representatives made it clear he would be interested in a move to Old Trafford, according to ESPN.
The 28-year-old has completely fallen out with Laurent Blanc in recent weeks, who confirmed he was free to leave Parc des Princes if the right offer came in. Manchester United, on the other hand, are in dire need of a world-class striker.
Luckily for both clubs, the Red Devils have got one of the biggest transfer budgets in world football, making a potential mega-money move in the current transfer window a distinct possibility.

PSG spent a French record £55m to sign Cavani from Napoli in 2013 and with 69 goals in 120 games, he can hardly be considered a flop. But the Uruguayan has spent much of the last two-and-a-half years playing on the left-wing while Zlatan Ibrahimovic has continued in the lone-striker role.
That has contributed to Cavani's discontent. He has perennially been linked with a move to the Premier League, but PSG have been reluctant to sell. Now, that has all changed and the timing could not be perfect for Louis van Gaal.

Lack of Firepower
The Dutch coach has seen his current batch of strikers fail to impress for much of the season. Wayne Rooney has finally started to find some form, but the lack of goals throughout the team has caused significant concern.
Manchester United have long held an interest in Cavani and would not shy away from a fee approaching PSG's original outlay. Considering their ongoing struggle to break into the top four, Ed Woodward is very much aware of the damage that missing out on Champions League football next season would cause both financially and footbally*.
A real possibility
Cavani, even if he costs over £40m, would prove a worthy addition if he can contribute 10-15 Premier League goals between now and the end of the season and help secure a top four place.
Fans of the Old Trafford outfit are used to seeing big names linked with a move, but this appears to be one that could genuinely happen.
