It was a bad day at the office to say the least following Everton’s 2-1 defeat to relegation battlers Swansea on Sunday. Now, it has just got a little worse for the Toffees as duo Kevin Mirallas and Muhamed Besic will be sidelined for Wednesday’s League Cup tie with Manchester City.
Midfielder Besic suffered a hamstring injury whilst Mirallas picked up a tendon injury. There is no confirmation as to how long they will be on the treatment table for but what we do know is Wednesday’s clash with City is a no go for the Everton duo.
The Toffees go into the midweek match holding a 2-1 advantage from the first leg at Goodison Park which saw Ramiro Funes Mori and Romelu Lukaku edge the home side ahead. A victory or a draw against City at the Etihad on Wednesday will see Everton reach the League Cup final for the first time since 1977.

Besic has only featured nine times for the Toffees this season including two appearances in the League Cup whilst Mirallas has 16 games to his name, contributing four goals.
Both players also featured in the first leg; Besic playing the full 90 minutes whilst Mirallas only received 22 minutes of game time - leaving both players undoubtedly hoping to feature in Manchester.
Mirallas has earned himself somewhat of a reputation for being injury prone during his time at Everton and could be set to face another lengthy spell out. Besic’s injury could also see him watching on from the stands for the foreseeable future, after recently featuring more prominently and both will be hoping their teammates can finish off what they started in the second leg.
