The notion that Mario Balotelli is one of the most enigmatic footballers currently playing the game is probably correct.

The Italian striker, who has split opinion throughout his playing career, has been involved in all sorts of newsworthy incidents on and off the pitch.

Never too far from the front or back page of your newspaper, Balotelli never fails to entertain - albeit for the wrong reasons more often than not.

Well, another story about the AC Milan forward has come to prominence - Balotelli can thank former teammate Micah Richards for this one - and it's quite amusing.

Balotelli backing down

According to Richards, the man who is currently owned by Liverpool swore at him in Italian. The Aston Villa defender - not one to back down - confronted his teammate, but his advances were rejected.

On this occasion, then, Balotelli wasn't up for the scrap. Well, can you really blame him? Richards is, after all, a remarkably robust man.

"We were playing five-a-side and we were losing because he didn’t work, which is evident," Richards said on Sky TV show A League Of Their Own, as per Goal.com. "He swore at me in Italian and he thought I didn’t understand.

"But I know a bit of Italian lingo so I said, 'Who you talking to?' He said it again so we squared up and I offered him out. But he said no.

When asked whether he would have come out on top in the fight, Richards stated: "I fancy myself against anyone!"

Premier League future

It remains to be seen as to whether Premier League fans will see Balotelli on the field of play in England again anytime soon, but it's surely unlikely that he has a future at Liverpool.

It's unrealistic that the controversial Italian will suit the style of football Jurgen Klopp is trying to implement at Anfield.
