Daniel Bryan has been on hiatus from WWE since early 2015 when he suffered a concussion and was forced to relinquish the Intercontinental Championship.
Bryan won the title at last year's WrestleMania event and after being forced to drop the title when he failed to be cleared by WWE doctors, Daniel's future with WWE is looking rather bleak.
TO MUCH OF A GAMBLE?
Bryan has been cleared for a ring return by doctors outside of WWE but it seems WWE doctors are not happy to clear the former World Champion.

This is the second time Bryan has been forced to drop a championship and sit out on the treatment table after he won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 30, before a shoulder/neck injury kept him on the sidelines for a number of months.
WWE then decided to allow Bryan to return following his rehabilitation and he was awarded the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 31, but once again Bryan was forced to drop the title and once again take time away from the ring.

It seems WWE may have come to the point where they can't trust Bryan's health to be in the place they need it and they don't want to risk him being forced out of a major story line for the third time.
Bryan is a talented wrestler and had already had a storied wrestling career before he made it to WWE, so he has a lot of wisdom to pass on to any aspiring wrestler, so it would make sense for WWE to ask Bryan to stay with the company to train the next generation of superstars.
Word coming out of WWE was that many superstars expected Bryan to make his WWE return at The Royal Rumble, but the fact the fact that he didn't make an appearance doesn't bode well for his future prospects.
Despite being cleared by doctors outside of WWE it seems Vince McMahon is still not happy enough to allow Daniel to make a return, Bryan was said to have spoken to The Chairman to argue his case, according to NoDQ, but Vince said that be probably wouldn't be cleared.
For a popular wrestler like Daniel to make his return then he would have to be put into another major story line because of the following he has and WWE do not seem willing to take that gamble with him, which is a shame because Bryan has a lot still to give to the company if he is given chance.
