Chelsea are set to strengthen their defensive options with the £3.5million purchase of New York Red Bulls defender Matt Miazga, but there is already concern that he won't fit the bill at Stamford Bridge.
The Daily Mail called the 20-year-old centre-back one of the hottest young stars in US football, but one of his former team-mates, allegedly, doesn't think much of him at all.
The Secret Footballer claims to have spoken to this former team-mate, who anonymously panned Miazga for being 'as dumb as a donkey' before theorising that English football will eat him alive.

"I played with him in NY," he said. "He is a really nice guy but pretty naive. He is dumber than a donkey. He plays young. He looks big but he is soft so, hopefully, he gets a little strong and meaner otherwise he will be eaten alive in the Prem. He is a good kid so I am happy for him but he needs to be loaned out to get experience."
So, not exactly the quick-fix solution that fans were hoping for and certainly nothing like Everton star John Stones, who Chelsea aggressively pursued in the summer.
It appears that Miazga will replace Papy Djilobodji, who bizarrely left Chelsea on loan after just six months at Stamford Bridge. In that time, he made just one appearance for the Blues, coming on as a late substitute against Walsall in a League Cup game in September.
Miazga, of course, will be hoping to play more than the Senegal international. The 6ft 4in stopper was recently saluted as the best defender in the MLS, which is a good start, but it seems he has much to learn if he is to make it in the world's most competitive division.
