The Togo international is widely renowned as a controversial figure who seems to split fans - you either love or hate the towering forward.

It's important to note Adebayor hasn't played a single minute of professional football since last season, after being released from his £100,000-per-week contract at Tottenham.

A lack of fitness and poor initial form is to be expected, then, but Eagles fans have every right to anticipate Adebayor will become the goalscorer they've needed all season.

Despite his reputation of having a poor attitude, there's little doubting the striker is a proven finisher and capable of providing the goods at the highest level. With 96 Premier League goals to his name, Adebayor has enjoyed a somewhat fruitful career in England.

Tall, strong and athletic, the Togo international is equally effective in the air as he is on the floor. His style of play will fit in perfectly with Palace’s attacking wing play and should benefit both parties.

And Pardew shares such optimism. He said of Adebayor, according to the Daily Mail: "If I was a Palace fan I’d be absolutely overjoyed.

"If we get him anywhere near his best, this player is of a level above most players who’ve ever played for this football club.

"You could argue that perhaps Brighty [Mark Bright] was our best striker and he can’t even lace Ade’s boots. I’ve been telling him that — he’s not taken it well."

Adebayor’s return to Premier League football is exciting news for Palace fans. The striker has provided some truly stunning goals and memorable moments throughout his career - it's now up to him to rediscover such form at Selhurst Park.
