Piers Morgan will do a naked conga if Olivier Giroud scores against Barcelona

Piers Morgan is not a big fan of Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud.

The broadcaster has hit out at the French striker via Twitter on numerous occasions over the past three-and-a-half years, often because of his profligacy during matches.

Giroud drew a blank against Southampton on Tuesday evening and Morgan believes the 29-year-old stands virtually no chance of scoring against Barcelona in the Champions League later this month. In fact, Piers is so confident Giroud won’t score that he’s pledged to do a “naked conga around the Emirates Stadium” if he does.

"We kid ourselves. We think we play good football,” Morgan told talkSPORT on Wednesday morning. "We have no clinical finishing prowess in front of goal. Giroud will get you 20, 22 goals a season. He is a specialist in scoring lots of goals against Newcastle.

"If Giroud scores against Barcelona, I will do a naked conga around the Emirates Stadium. You heard it here first!"

Giroud has 5/5 in the Champions League this season

For that reason alone, we all better hope and pray Giroud fails to score against the Catalan giants on February 23.

But Giroud’s goalscoring record in the Champions League so far this season is actually pretty decent.

In his five appearances during the group stages, he scored five goals - including an important hat-trick in the final match against Olympiacos in Piraeus.

Giroud gets too much stick at times

One suspects, though, that even if Giroud scores against Barcelona, it wouldn’t stop the likes of Piers Morgan from criticising him in the future.

Arsenal fans became so used to watching Thierry Henry tear defences apart week in, week out, that his replacements were always going to struggle to live up to expectations.

Giroud probably isn’t world class but he’s not far off that level and the Gunners are lucky to have him.
