Just last week, Liverpool fans were hyped about the prospect of Alex Teixeira arriving at Anfield before the winter transfer window closed.
The Brazilian attacking midfielder admitted he wanted to join Liverpool and was angered that his employers, Shakhtar Donetsk, had not accepted the Reds’ €32 million bid.
Teixeira insisted he wanted to join Liverpool because it would enhance his chances of making the Brazil squad for the 2018 World Cup finals. But the 26-year-old will be hoping Brazil coach Dunga keeps a close eye on the Chinese Super League after completing a €50 million move to Jiangsu Suning today.

“Shakhtar Donetsk and Jiangsu Suning FC have agreed on all the necessary formalities for the transfer of Alex Teixeira to the Chinese club,” the Ukrainian club confirmed on their official website. “Transfer fee for the Brazilian midfielder is 50 million euros.
“Shakhtar thank Alex for the time spent in the team and wish him success at his new club.”
Teixeira will join Ramires at Jiangsu
Jiangsu Suning are clearly not messing about. Teixeira will join up with his fellow Brazilian, Ramires, who left Chelsea towards the end of the transfer window to embark on a new adventure in China.
Liverpool fans react on Twitter
Here’s how Liverpool supporters have reacted to the news on Twitter…
One suspects that, had he had the choice of the two clubs, Teixeira would have signed for Liverpool over Jiangsu.
But money talks and Shakhtar were never going to turn down an offer worth €50 million for the uncapped Brazilian.
