Jose Mourinho attempted to bring Griezmann to Stamford Bridge last summer, but with Atletico adamant he couldn't leave, the transfer was scuppered.
The 24-year-old is thought to be Chelsea's top target once again this summer, however, the lack of Champions League football - unless the Blues win it this year - could be a significant stumbling block.
A potential bidding war
Manchester United are also reportedly interested, but with Louis van Gaal’s side six points off fourth place, they too might have difficulty attracting the Frenchman.
Instead, Manchester City could emerge as the 24-year-old’s preferred destination. Having bought Raheem Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne for over £100 million last summer, City do not strictly need a Griezmann-type player, however, were he to instigate a bidding war they would surely flex their vast financial muscle.
With Pep Guardiola due to take over in the summer, City will be favourites for next season’s Premier League title, whilst Champions League qualification still looks very likely, despite Saturday’s 3-1 thumping at the hands of Leicester City.
Atletico currently sit second in La Liga, three points behind Barcelona, with Griezmann’s twelve goals and two assists crucial in maintaining their title challenge.
The France international is a huge admirer of Simeone as his manager, however, due to Atletico’s moderate financial power, a move to the Premier League could be imminent.
