Adam Johnson pleads guilty to one count of sexual activity with a child

Sunderland winger Adam Johnson has pleaded guilty to one account of sexual activity with a child. 

The BBC report that the Premier League star appeared at the Bradford Crown Court to admit one count of sexual activity with a child and one count of grooming.

Johnson has been embroiled in controversy after he was arrested back in March after being accused of having sex with a 15-year-old girl.

It was reported that her father approached the police after hearing rumours of relations involving Johnson and his daughter. 

Despite pleading guilty to one count of sexual activity, the BBC go on to report that Johnson has denied two charges of sexual activity with a girl under the age of 16.

Johnson career 

Johnson has starred for England on 12 occasions and has enjoyed a prominent role in the Premier League over a number of years.

Currently playing for Premier League strugglers Sunderland, the midfielder has also played for the likes of Middlesbrough and Manchester City. 

His court case is currently ongoing.
