Following his summer signing with Marseille, Diaby had reportedly been nearing full fitness only for a further setback in November to prolong his absence.

Much has changed since Diaby's last appearance - a 2-1 Capital One Cup defeat to Southampton in September 2014.

Jose Mourinho won his third Premier League title with Chelsea, only to be sacked later the same year, Jurgen Klopp has arrived in English football whilst Real Madrid have sacked Champions League-winning coach Carlo Ancelotti and his replacement Rafa Benitez.
