Some Manchester United players fear mass departures if Jose Mourinho takes over from Louis van Gaal this summer and they have every reason to.
Van Gaal has failed to build a squad that is capable of either a) winning big matches, or b) playing entertaining football.
It will be Mourinho’s job to overhaul the under-performing squad this summer - and we’ve come up with a predicted line-up that Manchester United fans could see at the start of the 2016-17 campaign.

It’s safe to assume that Mourinho will have plenty of money to spend in the summer transfer window - and this is a coach that top players want to play for.
We’ve tried to keep it as realistic as possible - sorry, Neymar fans - but at the same time remember this is just a bit of fun. It’s all guesswork right now - Mourinho might not even get the job!

Goalkeeper: David de Gea
David de Gea was minutes away from joining Real Madrid last summer and it’s possible that Manchester United have a gentleman’s agreement in place that he could sign for the Spanish giants this summer.
But Mourinho will be desperate to keep the world-class goalkeeper in his squad for the foreseeable future. Any replacement for the 25-year-old would be a downgrade.
Right-back: Matteo Darmian
Are any decent right-backs likely to be available this summer?
This is likely to be a problem for Mourinho, who may be forced to stick with Matteo Darmian for the time being.
Centre-back: Chris Smalling
With John Stones likely to be too expensive, Mourinho will probably opt to stick with Chris Smalling.
The 26-year-old has been one of United’s most consistent performers over the past 12 months and is now one of the Premier League’s best centre-backs.
Centre-back: Raphael Varane
Widespread reports claim Mourinho wants to make Raphael Varane his first signing as Manchester United manager.
The Portuguese coach is a huge admirer of the France international, who might be tempted to reunite with his old boss at Old Trafford this summer.
Left-back: Luke Shaw
Provided Luke Shaw makes a full recovery from his broken leg, there’s no reason for Mourinho to think about replacing the brilliant young left-back.
Mourinho wanted to sign Shaw for Chelsea but Manchester United, who were willing to pay more money, won the race for the England International’s signature.
Midfield: Morgan Schneiderlin
Morgan Schneiderlin has become an increasingly important player for Manchester United over recent months.
The combative France international is a class act and Mourinho may feel he can get even more out of the former Southampton star.
Midfield: Ross Barkley
Mourinho was interested in signing Ross Barkley this time last year, but Everton were demanding £50 million.
That price tag might not deter Manchester United, however, particularly given the way the England international has performed for the Toffees this season.
Left-wing: Antoine Griezmann
If Mourinho feels that Memphis Depay doesn’t have what it takes to become a Manchester United player, he may opt to splash some serious cash on Antoine Griezmann.
The France international has been one of the best players in La Liga over the past few seasons and Manchester United’s millions could force Atletico Madrid’s hand.
Isco is so much more than a playmaker - he’s the complete midfielder these days - but the Spain international is arguably most effective as a No. 10.
The 23-year-old would be a magnificent signing for the Red Devils - but will Mourinho opt to stick with Wayne Rooney in this position instead?
Right-wing: Riyad Mahrez
Of all the players Leicester City will struggle to keep hold of this summer, Riyad Mahrez must surely be top of the pile.
With 14 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League so far this season, Manchester United are likely to be competing for the Algeria international’s signature.
Striker: Anthony Martial
You don’t need to be Jose Mourinho to know that Manchester United have a diamond in their ranks in the form of Anthony Martial.
The French striker possesses world-class talent and will surely establish himself as the club’s first-choice centre-forward under Mourinho.
