LeBron James hit the Los Angeles Lakers where it hurts on Wednesday night, putting up 29 points and 11 assists as the Cleveland Cavaliers ran out 120-111 winners over their Western Conference visitors.
For one Lakers player in particularly, however, it was a particularly painful night courtesy of the four-time NBA MVP.
That's after Los Angeles rookie D'Angelo Russell, attempting to block a James pass in the third quarter, received a basketball to the groin for his troubles. Scroll down to see the wince-inducing play.
Fortunately, after laying prone on the court for a couple of minutes whilst receiving treatment from the Lakers staff, Russell was able to limp to the bench and, ultimately, returned to the game.
Despite how painful it looked, the rookie's teammate didn't seem to be too concerned. Kobe Bryant couldn't help but see the funny side when speaking after the game:
“It was hilarious. It was so funny. Once I knew he was OK, the jokes write themselves. That was a good time," said the veteran, via ESPN.
For Russell, meanwhile, it was a painful return to the state in which he enjoyed a standout year with the Buckeyes:
"It was tough. Every guy knows the feeling,” he said. “Laugh about it now and then two months from now, somebody else will have something else to laugh about.”
Considering San Antonio Spurs veteran Manu Ginobili is facing a month on the sideline after having to undergo testicular surgery following an awkward collision in a game last week, the rookie can count himself lucky it wasn't more serious.
