With Louis van Gaal's future at Manchester United uncertain, Jose Mourinho has been heavily linked with the top job at Old Trafford over the last couple of days.

In fact, reports have suggested that the self-proclaimed Special One has already reached an agreement with Red Devils.

Unsurprisingly, then, rumours regarding potential signings for the Portuguese tactician in Manchester have already begun.

Spanish outlet Sport have taken things to a whole new level, claiming that Mourinho has three Real Madrid players on his transfer wishlist.

If the report is to be believed, the former Chelsea manager wants Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Raphael Varane lining up for him at Old Trafford next season.

While signing the aforementioned players really would improve the current United team, the club's faithful will be all too aware that it's completely unrealistic to assume that Mourinho would be able to land all three.

But that's not going to stop us taking a look at just how much United could do with the Real Madrid trio...

Here's a look at the three players linked to the Red Devils:

Raphael Varane

Under the guidance of Zinedine Zidane, Raphael Varane has established himself as an important player at the Bernabeu recently - he has played in 17 league games throughout the course of the season - and he continues to go from strength-to-strength.

At just 22, the France international is recognised as one of the leading defenders in world football and would make a wonderful signing for United as they go in search of long-term success. The Red Devils have improved at the back this season, but adding Varane would only enhance them under Mourinho.

Luka Modric

With Michael Carrick approaching the final stages of his career, the addition of Luka Modric would be ideal at this stage.

When Carrick is out of the side, United don't have a classy ball-playing midfielder in the centre of the park. Modric is exactly that and certainly knows how to deal with the demands of playing in the Premier League. It's going to be very difficult for United to secure his signature, but he would be an exceptional signing.

Gareth Bale

Welsh wizard Gareth Bale is the superstar that Manchester United crave. It's clear for all to see that Ed Woodward is determined to bring a mega name to the Theatre of Dreams and Bale clearly fits the bill.

Since Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo departed the club, United have never quite been the same, so perhaps a world-class addition would change things for them. Bale would offer speed, class, assists and goals to the United ranks, so what's not to like?
