Leicester City fan accepts cash-out offer on £1 bet

Published 38 Comments

Would you be tempted to cash-out early if you’d bet £1 on Leicester City to win the Premier League title?

The Foxes might be five points clear at the top of the table but there are still 13 matches left to play and 39 points up for grabs. Claudio Ranieri’s men are not used to being in this position and have Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City all breathing down their neck.

If your answer was ‘no’ - what about if we told you the cash-out offer was a cool £1100.22? One Leicester City fan has decided to take the money and run - and we can’t blame him.

This is according to the Mirror, who understand the unnamed supporter placed the £1 bet on Leicester to be crowned champions of England last May.

The Foxes were 5000/1 with Ladbrokes to win the title - among the favourites to be relegated to the Championship before a ball was kicked this season - and now they are the favourites at 5/2.

Fan explains his decision to cash-out

Justifying his decision to cash-out, the Leicester fan said: "Over a grand is too good an offer to turn down and it will go towards trains and tickets to follow Leicester chase the dream in the title run in.

"Football isn't cheap these days and the feeling of winning the league will be priceless anyway.

"I'd rather keep the cash for football than have my girlfriend find out. I might stretch to 12 roses instead of 6 though."

He's not as brave as this fan...

At least he can sit back and not have to worry himself sick for the next three months - which is more than could be said for Leigh Herbert, another Leicester City fan.

He stands to win a massive £25,000 if his team win the title and made headlines earlier this week after rejecting William Hill’s generous £3,200 cash-out offer.

“I am going to hang in there," the 39-year-old was quoted as saying by the Independent. "I believe in fairy tales and £25,000 will be a life changing win.”

Leicester have a long way to go yet

It really would be fairytale if Leicester won the Premier League title. The problem is that there is still an awful long way to go and they don’t have much strength in depth.

An injury to Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez or N'Golo Kanté and it’ll probably be game over.

Manchester City v Leicester City - Premier League

This weekend they face arguably their biggest challenge of the season so far: a match against fellow title rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners hammered Ranieri’s men 5-2 back in September and know they can ill-afford to lose on Sunday if they are to end their own long wait for the Premier League trophy.

Did the guy who cashed out for £1100 make a smart decision - or are Leicester going to win the league? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
