One of the worst kept secrets came to fruition last month when NXT General Manager William Regal confirmed that a Japanese sensation will be going up against Sami Zayn at TakeOver: Dallas.
The potential full-time arrival of Shinsuke Nakamura was met with great optimism because of his immense popularity, incredible in-ring work and the general flamboyance he brings which gets the fans excited.
At first it wasn’t clear whether Nakamura was going to be given a full-time contract, rumours suggested the WWE was going to see how he works at the Performance Center before a final decision was made.

However, after the WWE Fastlane event, the WWE confirmed the signing of Nakamura and a press conference was held in his native Japan.
The charismatic Nakamura was the hottest free agent in the sports entertainment business since the WWE also snapped up AJ Styles, and plenty of big names have had their say on the arrival of one of the best wrestlers on the planet today.
Styles has worked closely with Nakamura, taking on Nakamura for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship in a losing effort at the Wrestle Kingdom 10 event and the phenomenal one described him as one of the finest wrestlers he has ever worked with.
Nakamura already travelled to the US previously to meet up with Triple H and Vince McMahon, also paying a visit to the WWE Performance Center where he will be training in the build-up to his highly anticipated TakeOver clash with Zayn.
Joining Styles in paying tribute to the high-profile signing were current Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens, who was also excited as a fan to finally see him in the company. NXT Champion Finn Balor expressed his joy at Nakamura’s arrival as did NXT Head Coach Matt Bloom, who worked with him when he was over in Japan.
So it’s clear that Nakamura’s arrival brings a sense of excitement as so many incredible matches could soon be taking place in the WWE. We’re getting one of the many as early as April when he takes on Zayn but potential clashes with the likes of Austin Aries, Apollo Crews, Samoa Joe and Balor on NXT are mouth-watering clashes.
It’s the main roster where he will truly shine, matches with Owens, Styles, Seth Rollins as well as Cesaro would be too good to miss.
One match we won’t be witnessing is a match with Daniel Bryan, something Nakamura wanted and highlighted in his statement when he signed with the company. The good news is that Nakamura won’t be changing his name and hopefully, he won’t be changing his style too much either.
It’s definitely an exciting time to be a WWE fan, the King of Strong Style has finally arrived.
