Manchester United are currently locked in an absolute slugfest to make it through to the last 16 of the Europa League against Danish minnows FC Midtjylland. Now there's a sentence that sums up how the mighty have fallen.
Louis van Gaal's side fell to a shock 2-1 defeat in the first leg, which heaped the pressure on the Dutchman who is in danger of losing his job before the end of the season.
You can imagine the outcry then, when, during the second leg at Old Trafford this evening, the Red Devils fell even further behind in the tie. Up stepped Juan Mata to slot home from 12 yards out....except he didn't. In the Spanish playmakers' defence, his penalty wasn't terrible and it drew a fine save from Mikkel Anderson in the FC Midtjylland goal. Not that it stopped Manchester United fans from laying into the former Chelsea man.
Things got even worse in the second half when Ander Herrera spurned a golden chance to score and level things up across the tie, while Morgan Schneiderlin had hit the post before Mata's penalty miss.
If Manchester United were to lose tonight - which, despite the scoreline, seems unlikely as the home side continue to pile on the pressure in second half - it could spell the end for Van Gaal at Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho has been heavily linked with taking over from his former boss at Barcelona, but despite reports it's not believed that the Special One has an agreement in place to take charge as yet. That may change if the result stays the same tonight.
Should LVG lose his job tonight regardless of the result given his side's performance?
