Shane McMahon's return on Raw this week was one of the biggest shocks in WWE for a very long time, but it seems it was also a shock to many who actually work for WWE.
Shane was contacted a month ago when his father Vince was told that John Cena would not recover from his surgery in time to face The Undertaker.
Vince turned to his son, Shane. The boss is evidently hoping to draw on the nostalgia of his son's crazy, attitude era performances and provide an alternative draw for WrestleMania - an event dearly lacking star power at this juncture.
Shane O'Mac Vs The Undertaker
Apparently, very few people knew about Shane's return until he arrived at WWE just before the show went live.
It is reported that Vince was said to be furious that Cena couldn't make WrestleMania because he believed that Cena vs Undertaker would be the perfect Legend vs Legend match to build the card around.
Instead, given the crowd's reaction to his return, it seems Shane was the right person to step up and take Cena's place; even though he hasn't wrestled or been seen on WWE TV in almost six years.
It is now being speculated that there could be a real-life power struggle for the company between Stephanie McMahon, her husband Triple H and the returning Shane.
Shane would have obviously been offered something so that he would return after quitting WWE back in 2010 because he wanted pursue other ventures. It's also speculated that he believedTriple H would be the likely candidate to inherit the company ahead of his birthright, so he wanted to make sure he created something for his children to then inherit from him.
Shane and Vince's showdown on Raw got so heated that Vince actually swore on live TV. The profanity then had to be dubbed out for the crowd at home, but the audience in the arena still heard it clearly. This was said to have been because Shane was pushing the fact that WWE was failing through stocks, injuries and ratings and Vince was not happy about the real life facts being presented on TV.
Current speculation is suggesting that Shane could be winning his match against The Undertaker at WrestleMania, thus going on to then own part of WWE. This could in-turn then open up a feud between Shane and Triple H that could become all about the control of the WWE and who the rightful owner actually is.
