Louis van Gaal is a man who would be forgiven for keeping an eye on new job opportunities ahead of the summer.
The Manchester United boss has received more than his fair share of criticism over the course of this season due to his side’s perceived failings, and the general consensus is that the Red Devils will look to replace him come the end of the campaign.
Mourinho to replace LVG?
The man who currently looks to be heading the queue with regards to stepping into his shoes is Chelsea favourite Jose Mourinho. The pair worked together at Barcelona before Mourinho’s ascension to elite management - he’s now the favourite to become the next Old Trafford boss.
When asked about the possibility, though, Van Gaal wasn’t prepared to properly go on record with his thoughts on the matter.
The Dutchman labelled the media buzz ‘ridiculous’, whilst also insisting that United as a club shouldn’t react.
“(Mourinho) has said things a number of times with a lot of words,” Van Gaal told TV channel RTL7, as per the Daily Mirror.
“But he does not have to tell me anything. I find the whole thing ridiculous.
“No, I don’t want United to do something either. I don’t even want them to react to things which I read in the media or which are being created.
“We, the club and I, are not going to help the media right now by denying things.
“I think what is happening is an absolute scandal.”
Mourinho the man
That’s as may be, but the idea that United will be in the hands of the Special One within a few months is one that continues to build momentum.
Mourinho’s not the most universally loved coach in the world, and his appointment would certainly break a few Stamford Bridge hearts, but at a time when Van Gaal’s position is precarious at best, the speculation is impossible to ignore.
