Cristiano Ronaldo launched an astonishing verbal attack on his Real Madrid team-mates after his side fell to a historic defeat to Atletico Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday.

Antoine Griezmann sealed a famous 1-0 victory for the underdogs in the second half, virtually ruling Zinedine Zidane's side out of the La Liga title race. They sit nine points behind Barcelona, who also have a game in hand.

Needless to say, the home dressing room was not a happy place following the conclusion of the match. And Ronaldo, who will probably live to regret it, held nothing back in a post-match press conference.

In an explosive interview, the Portuguese appeared to put the blame for all of Real Madrid's shortcomings on his team-mates and refused to admit that his own form had been subpar.

Ronaldo, however, was keen to say that he still enjoys playing with the current crop of Los Blancos stars, even handing out praise to defender Danilo.

Scathing attack

Get ready. This is pretty unbelievable…

"If everyone was as good as me, maybe we would be first,” said Ronaldo.

“If a team does not play with the best is difficult to win a long competition. I don't want to insult anyone.

“I do like playing with Karim [Benzema], with [Gareth] Bale, Marcelo, I am not saying that others are not good, for example Danilo has today been the best on the pitch.

“From what the press says it seems like I am doing sh*t but the numbers and statistics do not lie. They are there.”

The treble

The win for Diego Simeone's side not only kept them within touching distance of Barcelona but also saw them win their third consecutive La Liga Bernabeu derby – an amazing achievement for any club.

They become the first La Liga side in history to win three times in a row at the Bernabeu and the home fans could be heard calling for president Florentino Perez to resign.
