DraftKings Gameweek 28: Picks of the Week

Published Add your comment

Great news, DraftKings fans: there’s a midweek round of Premier League fixtures and potentially plenty of points up for grabs.

We don’t need to tell you that the likes of Sergio Aguero, Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Marcus Rashford(!) are candidates to score big this week - you already know that.

So, we’ve provided a list of three players you might inadvertently overlook will deciding on your next DraftKings lineup.

Matt Ritchie - $5,900 (v Southampton)

Matt Ritchie has been an absolute points machine in recent weeks and the Bournemouth winger could rack up another big score against Southampton on Tuesday night.

The Cherries have only won one of their previous four Premier League matches but the hugely effective Ritchie has averaged a superb 15.25 fantasy points during that time - only marginally better than his overall fantasy points per game (FPPG) of 13.5.

The 26-year-old, who has scored three goals and provided four assists in the league for Bournemouth this term, racks up the majority of his points from shots and crosses.

In his previous five appearances, Ritchie has taken 15 shots at goal (an average of three per match) and whipped in 26 crosses (nine of which came in Bournemouth’s 0-0 draw with Watford on Saturday).

Bournemouth’s league form has been pretty poor in recent weeks - just two wins from their past 10 Premier League fixtures - but Ritchie, who began his career with Southampton’s bitter rivals Portsmouth, looks certain to make a significant impact whether his team win, lose or draw.

Watford v A.F.C. Bournemouth - Premier League

Patrick van Aanholt - $4,200 (v Crystal Palace)

Last week we tipped you to put Christian Fuchs in your DraftKings lineups and the Leicester City left-back did the business: recording 14.5 points against Norwich City.

We advise you to select the Austria international for the second successive Gameweek - the Foxes play West Brom at home on Tuesday - but if you’re after a slightly cheaper alternative who could potentially score big this week then Sunderland’s Patrick van Aanholt ticks all the boxes.

First and foremost, the 25-year-old and his teammates find themselves up against a Crystal Palace side in freefall. Alan Pardew’s men have taken a worrying three points from their previous 10 Premier League matches and sit rock-bottom of the form table.

This is an excellent opportunity for Sunderland to claw their way out of the relegation zone and Van Aanholt, who averages 8.8 FPPG, is likely to play a prominent role in the match.

The Dutchman recorded 11.5 points against the Eagles in the reverse fixture back in November and has surpassed that impressive tally on four occasions in the league since then.

In January, Van Aanholt averaged 14.5 FPPG - this is an adventurous full-back who contributes in attack with goals, assists, shots and crosses - and although his scores have been lower in recent weeks, Tuesday’s match against Palace provides the perfect opportunity to get back to scoring big points.

Sunderland v Manchester City - Premier League

Memphis Depay - $5,500 (v Watford)

At the very start of the season, Memphis Depay would have been in everyone’s DraftKings lineup.

The Dutchman scored 28 goals in 40 matches for PSV Eindhoven before securing a big-money move to Manchester United, where he enjoyed a decent start and was subsequently handed the club’s iconic number seven shirt.

To say it’s been a tough debut campaign in the Premier League for Memphis would be an understatement, but the 22-year-old’s form has picked up of late - and there’s a chance he could record his biggest points tally of the season so far against Watford on Wednesday night.

Memphis scored one of his two Premier League goals to date in United’s 2-1 win over the Hornets back in November - but he was still pretty low on confidence at the time.

Things may finally have changed for the Netherlands international, though, following two eye-catching performances against Midtjylland and Arsenal.

Memphis recorded 9.5 points against the Gunners on Sunday (three shots - two on target - two crosses, two fouls drawn, two interceptions and even a tackle won earning him a reasonably decent score) but if he can play with the same swagger against Watford then there’s every opportunity he’ll double that tally - potentially netting himself a goal or two in the process.
