Kevin Owens and Zayn have a rivalry dating back to Ring of Honor.

WWE: Who could Sami Zayn face at WrestleMania 32?

Published 1 Comments

Former NXT Champion Sami Zayn made a surprising return to the WWE in January when he entered the Royal Rumble and tossed out his long-time rival Kevin Owens, ending his chances of main eventing WrestleMania 32.

At the time it didn’t matter, Owens went on to become the Intercontinental Champion which meant he’d be defending the championship title at WrestleMania while Sami was going to remain on NXT to take on Shinsuke Nakamura at TakeOver: Dallas.

The latest rumours, however, suggest plans could change for both men. While Zayn will still go up against the debuting Nakamura the night before WrestleMania, he’s scheduled to compete at WrestleMania as well.

If those rumours are to be believed, and he is scheduled to compete at WrestleMania, what options do the WWE have available to get the best out of him? Let’s take a look.

On a personal level as a huge Zayn fan, this is an idea I would hate but with the WWE you never know what they may pull out of the bag. They had an NXT star compete in this match last year where Hideo Itami impressed, and it wouldn’t surprise me seeing Zayn play a role in this year’s match.

We know he’s ridiculously over with the crowd, and he can get to the Daniel Bryan level of popularity if he’s booked correctly. It’s a risk throwing somebody in at the deep end when they’ve not achieved a lot on the main roster, but Zayn has been doing this for almost 15 years, he’s more experienced than half of the stars at the back.

If anyone can step up to the mark in this sort of match, then Zayn is the perfect star to do so. Storyline-wise this probably makes sense to have him compete in a match which requires no feud, as he’ll be busy with Nakamura heading into WrestleMania weekend. You can’t have one seem more important than the other.

If the WWE want to give the WrestleMania fans a treat by putting on a wrestling match they’ll be talking about for weeks to come, having Neville go up against Sami would be a perfect first match for him.

This is also Neville’s first WrestleMania so it would be great for him to be in a match where his opponent is somebody as talented as Zayn, they’ve had incredible battles on NXT and it would be great to see the two former NXT Champions come full circle and meet inside the WrestleMania ring.

Neville hasn’t done a lot in recent months but he’s got more experience on the main roster than Zayn. This could be a perfect match-up for them both to really create a buzz heading into what promises to be an incredible Monday Night Raw the following night.

Is there really anybody else the WWE can or should consider? This is the match all WWE fans want because of the rich history the two have which dates back many years during their time on the independent scene.

There’s a lot of emotion attached to this storyline, as an El Generico fan it’s crazy to see how close he is to having a WrestleMania match and to have it against a former partner and even better rival in Kevin Steen would really show that they both have ‘made it’ to the big time.

WWE SummerSlam 2015

This is another fantastic way of showing off the amazing chemistry the two of them share; they’re both great inside of the ring and it’s the ultimate face versus heel battle with the fans split between the two. Seeing them go at it at TakeOver was special enough but seeing them in front of the biggest WrestleMania crowd in history would be incredible.
