Iker Casillas may be one of the best goalkeepers world football has ever seen but that doesn’t mean he isn’t capable of making embarrassing mistakes.
The Spaniard spent 16 seasons at Real Madrid, winning five La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues as well as a World Cup and two European Championships for Spain.
As you can see, the 34-year-old has enjoyed a magnificent career with plenty of high points but this weekend saw, potentially, his biggest low point.
That’s because Casillas, who now plays in Portugal for Porto, made an absolute howler of a mistake during his side’s 3-1 defeat to Braga.
Casillas channelled his inner Manuel Neuer and charged 40 yards out of his goal in an attempt to intercept a through ball.
But Braga’s Alan nipped the ball past him and rolled the ball into the empty to leave the legendary shot-stopper extremely red faced.

Casillas’ crazy decision to ome rushing out of his goal was brought on by frustration that Porto were about to lose ground on Benfica in the Portuguese Liga.
Porto went into the match knowing they needed to win to close the gap at the top of the league to three points.
They went behind in the 70th minute but thought they’d earned a point when Maxi Pereira equalised with just four minutes remaining.
But Braga scored in the 89th minute, before Casillas’ moment of madness in the fifth minute of injury time saw his side collapse to a 3-1 defeat.
Casillas joined Porto last summer after an incredible spell at the Bernabeu.
He was called up to the first-team at Los Blancos when he was just 16 and was playing in a Champions League final three years later.
But towards the end of his time in Madrid, both Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti used the goalkeeper sparingly and he left the club in fairly unceremonious circumstances.
Casillas' season in Portugal hasn’t been too successful though. His mistake on Sunday wasn’t his first error of campaign, or the calendar year in fact.
During Porto’s 1-0 defeat to Vitoria Guimaraes in January, Casillas dropped a fairly simple shot to the feet of striker Bakary Sare who turned the ball into the net.

Of course, it’s not just on the pitch that Casillas has made costly errors.
At the age of “seven or eight” Casillas forgot to post his father’s football pools coupon on the weekend that his dad had correctly predicted all 14 results. The win would have earned him an estimated £1 million.
Just as well he soon became a professional football and was able to repay his debts then.
