Earlier this year news broke that Shinsuke Nakamura, AJ Styles, Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows all parted ways with New Japan Pro Wrestling to join the WWE.
So far only AJ Styles has made his debut in the WWE as a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble, he put on a fantastic showing as the third superstar to join the match.
Nakamura is going to be making his debut at NXT TakeOver: Dallas in April where the King of Strong Style goes up against Sami Zayn, which means the only stars we’re left waiting for at this stage are Anderson and Gallows.
The big talking point surrounding their arrival is whether they’ll be debuting on NXT or whether they’ll skip that stage completely and join the main roster. The assumption has been that they’ll join NXT and align themselves with current NXT Champion, Finn Balor.
It’s the go-to option, they all have history in NJPW as part of the Bullet Club, and Balor hasn’t stopped teasing their arrival. Most recently Balor has been teasing a new name for the potential stable; a new shirt has been released on WWE Shop which suggests the stable could be called ‘Bulletproof’ rather than Balor Club.
According to WrestleZone.com, PWInsider are reporting that the original plan for the duo was to have them debut on NXT as part of the Balor Club, but the new plan will see Anderson and Gallows join the main roster instead.
The new plan means both men will debut on the main roster around WrestleMania; the likelihood is they’ll be two stars that appear the night after WrestleMania. However, there’s always a chance the WWE take a huge gamble and give them a bigger push by having them debut at WrestleMania itself.
If this is the case, then it’s clear what direction the WWE are going with. Unless the plan is to have them go at it as a tag team without a stable, then they’ll more than likely team with AJ Styles to form the new ‘Bulletproof’ stable.
HOW SHOULD THEY DEBUT?
It’s certainly going to be an interesting few weeks heading into WrestleMania, at the minute it makes no sense to have them debut before WrestleMania because it will be a rush to have them seem important before such a huge event; especially if Balor doesn't have a match at the WWE's grandest event.
Debuting at WrestleMania is a risk which could either pay off or go down as a failure, the night after the company's biggest show seems like the best option to go with. Not only that, fans will be interested in how they debut and the crowd is never hotter than the night after 'Mania. Who do they align themselves win? AJ Styles or Balor?
Fans have already begun speculating.
I still believe having them as Balor’s muscle on NXT is the best path to go down, but it’s clear the WWE have faith in them to do a job on the main roster. Styles is a big face on the main roster and turning him heel would be a huge surprise but another that could pay off in the long run.
