Taking a look at the smart, obvious and out there ways WWE could potentially book the greatest man to have ever lived.

How WWE can make the most out of Austin Aries - three options

Published 1 Comments

William Regal hit the nail on the head when he described Austin Aries as one of the biggest and most exciting signings to the NXT roster.

Whether heel or face, Aries has found success all around the globe becoming the TNA World Heavyweight Champion on one occasion and a two-time ROH Heavyweight Champion.

In making his debut on NXT, Baron Corbin attacked him and set up a matchup between the two for NXT Takeover Dallas; which Aries is hotly tipped to win. With age and time not being on his side, let’s take a look at what WWE could do with the greatest man to have ever lived.

The Obvious: A Top NXT Superstar

Aries is well known to diehard wrestling fans as a true anti-hero. Similar to the work of CM Punk in the WWE, Aries was able to carve himself into that niche of superstars that could portray a lifelike character and get away with venting their frustrations onto television.

This character could easily capture the attention of the NXT audience and play out similar to the way Kevin Owens did back in late 2014 on NXT television.

Having him as a face at the start of his NXT run makes a lot of sense, as fans are going to root for him no matter who he faces because they are happy just to see him.

Baron Corbin then makes sense to be his opponent as WWE continue to make him a top heel.

However, like Kevin Owens, this cannot last too long, and then allow for Aries to rival with the likes of Finn Balor, Shinsuke Nakamura and Sami Zayn; hopefully leading to a quick championship run before joining the main roster.

The Smart: To put over struggling younger talent

Along with AJ Styles and Samoa Joe, Austin Aries is arguably a part of the group of best wrestlers to ever to come out of TNA’s X division.

The one thing that makes him stand out of the pack is the flawlessness performances he is able to still provide week to week and some of the best spots on the card.

Also, his ability to add meaning to any mid-card rivalry that he is a part of has made many other superstars shine when they may not have if they worked with anybody else.

Therefore, whenever he is called up to the main roster, placing either the Intercontinental or United States Championship on him makes a lot of sense. With his strong wrestling psychology, he is able to sell the prestige of any championship.

Most likely, this would happen with him being a heel, however, he could even build a long reign with victories over other top heel talent.

A guy like Neville has really struggled since he was called up and that’s not because of his in-ring work, but who he has been storylined against. Aries would be the perfect guy to put him over, as he can match the exceptional in-ring work, but also can take control of the promos and segments that are required to create a great feud.

The Out There: Put over a Face Seth Rollins

Now it’s unclear, when or whether Seth Rollins will return to the WWE as a face or continue as the top heel. However, the tweet he sent out after his injury in November has led to much speculation of a potential turn.

If this was to happen, it would place Rollins against the Authority, particularly Triple H. The good relationship between Triple H and Aries is well known, so having him come as Rollins’ official replacement would make a lot of booking sense.

Aries and Rollins are both brilliant in-ring performers and would trade promos that refer back to their historic rivalry in ROH. Both superstars have the credibility to play off this, and by doing so it will only add hype to their WWE rivalry rather than revert people to ROH.

This would be perfect in putting Seth over as the top face of the company, and then he can begin his road of redemption of winning the title that he never lost.
