A magnificent 118 goals in 292 matches for Machester United gave Cristiano Ronaldo legendary status at Old Trafford.
He helped his side win three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, two League Cups, a FIFA Club World Cup and the 2008 Champions League.
The Portuguese superstar was such a fan favourite that ‘Viva Ronaldo’ echoed around the Theatre of Dreams on regular occurrence.

He even won the Ballon d’Or in 2008 whilst at the club.
But he wasn’t the best player at Manchester United during that time, according to Nani.

Nani, an international teammate of Ronaldo, claims that a certain Paul Scholes was the ‘highlight’ of his career in Manchester.
"So many good players. Ronaldo, the best player in the world right now but at that time Scholesy was great," Nani answered in a Q&A on the Europa League’s official Facebook page.
“I learned a lot from him in training. There were others, too, but he was the highlight during that time.”
Nani is the perfect judge
It’s hard to argue with a player that played five-and-a-half seasons with Scholes at United while he was Ronaldo’s teammate for two campaigns in Manchester whilst playing for Portugal with him for many years.
During Nani’s two seasons with Ronaldo, the 31-year-old managed 68 goals for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side whilst winning two Premier League trophies, a League Cup, a FIFA Club World Cup and the Champions League.
But Nani’s vote went to Scholes and many United fans may agree with him.
The midfielder made 718 appearances for the club over 20 seasons.
His trophy cabinet is crammed full of 11 Premier League wins, three FA Cups, two League Cups, a FIFA Club World Cup and two Champions Leagues.
His was instrumental in United’s midfield for decades and it’s no coincidence that since his retirement at the end of the 2012/13 campaign, the club haven’t won the title since.
Scholes had originally retired a year previously but halfway through the following campaign, United realised they needed him back and persuaded him to sign for them again.
He was a revelation and helped the club win their 20th league title.
Quotes on Scholes
It’s not just Nani that rates Scholes highly. A whole host of world-class footballers have been quoted praising the ginger centre-midfielder in the past.
"My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder,” said Zinedine Zidane.
Gary Neville said: “I wouldn’t swap Paul Scholes for anybody. He is quite simply the most complete footballer I have ever played with. He is the best.”
While incoming Manchester City boss added: “Out of everyone at Manchester United, I would pick out Scholes – he is the best midfielder of his generation. I would have loved to have played alongside him.”
