There really is no stopping Barcelona at the moment is there? They were top of La Liga this morning by eight points and they've extended their lead to 11 points over Atletico Madrid, who play later this evening, with a comprehensive victory over Getafe today.
Lionel Messi may have missed a penalty in the first half at the Nou Camp, but the Argentinian forward was pulling the strings as Barcelona ran out emphatic 6-0 winners. The 28-year-old ended the game with a goal and three assists to his name, ensuring his scintillating form in 2016 continues.
The missed penalty was Messi's eighth in La Liga for Barcelona, which is a new record, while the Catalan club also now hold the record for the most missed penalties in a single season, with eight.
Barcelona were offered a helping hand that they certainly didn't need when Getafe defender Juan Rodriguez put the ball into his own net with just eight minutes gone. Youngster Munir then made it 2-0 thanks to a trademark Andres Iniesta pass and a Messi assist.
Messi was as it again when he teed up Neymar before he provided the best moment of a madcap first half by driving an unstoppable shot from 20 yards out beyond the grasp of Getafe shotstopper Guaita.
Neymar bagged his second of the game and of course it was that man Messi who was on hand to provide the assist. The Brazilian's second strike meant that, for the first time ever, three Barcelona forwards - the feared 'MSN', including Luis Suarez who didn't feature today - have scored more than 20 league goals each in the same season.
If it was Messi who provided the moment of the first half, then it was Arda Turan who stole the show in the second 45 with a sublime overhead kick. The Turkish international slammed home an athletic close-range overhead kick following Gerard Pique's touch from a Messi corner.
That made it 6-0 with more than half hour to play - however the Catalan club were seemingly content to coast to the full-time whistle ahead of their Champions League clash against Arsenal in midweek.
They hold a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, and it seems both Messi and Barcelona are in the form of their lives going into the second leg at the Nou Camp.
