With Conor McGregor having called out virtually every fighter there is over the past few years on route to his place at the top of the UFC, it is fair to say the Irishman developed a few enemies along the way.
Now, in the aftermath of his first defeat in the UFC octagon at the hands of Nate Diaz on March 5, those rivals are taking their opportunity to respond in kind.
The latest to do so is former UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra. "The Terror" unleashed an expletive-laded rant against McGregor in which he labelled him a "dumb f***er" for the way he lost to Diaz.
Speaking to SB Nation reporter Stephie Hayes, Serra didn't hold back as he ridiculed the Irish fighter for opting to submit rather than passing out during the MGM Grand bout:
"Not being a c**k, but look at Conor. All the shit you talked, take a nap, man. It's not like your arm was about to break," said the 41-year-old MMA fighter.
"I understand you want your career and if it was a kneebar, you'll be out for six months, but dude, if worst comes to worst, you'll think you're in your bedroom. That's it. You'll wake up like, ‘WTF,' but everything will be alright.
Serra - who is a good friend of Diaz - wasn't done there either. After calling into question the courage of McGregor, he then took aim at some of the Irish star's pre-fight claims:
"I was so f****** happy seeing Nate win," continued Senna. "Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Conor McGregor, but the s*** where he went in on Nate about teaching the kids jiu-jitsu...
"It's one thing to be witty and this and that, but now you're writing some s***, trying to be clever...you know what? You start crossing lines and your karma is not good, either.
"You start making fun of the guys teaching jiu-jitsu classes...he could be out in the hood doing dirty s***, but he's in there teaching kids martial arts, you dumb f*****. How dare you.
McGregor, in typically outspoken fashion, had mocked Diaz for his activities out of the ring during the promotion for this month's hastily arranged fight. It helped build up the anticipation amongst fans, but clearly didn't sit well with Serra.
"That's f****** stupid. You want to make your money, make your money, but that's stupid. That annoyed me, and I love the Diaz brothers, so when he (Nate Diaz) f****** lit him up, when he started landing, I was going nuts.
McGregor's trash talking has been one of his key traits on route to the UFC pinnacle and it is designed to rile people up.
Whether he continues in the same arrogant fashion now he has an L on his record will be interesting to see.
