Are Liverpool heading towards a major summer clear out?
After perhaps their most damaging defeat of the season, a 3-2 loss against Southampton in which they threw away a 2-0 lead at St.Mary's, BBC Sport journalist Ben Smith tweeted out some interesting information.
The Reds have had an ultimately disappointing season despite their progress in the Europa League at Manchester United's expense in mid-week, and defeat against the Saints means their hopes of a top four finish are all but over.
Boss Jurgen Klopp will look to remould his squad in the summer, and the headline news is that big-money signing Christian Benteke could be out the door.
The Belgian forward arrived from Aston Villa last summer to work with Brendan Rodgers, however he was soon out the door and the 25-year-old has struggled.
According to Smith, Liverpool could be about to pull the plug on his time at Anfield already, while error-prone shotstopper Simon Mignolet, who recently penned a new contract extension at Anfield to keep him at the club until 2021, is no longer guaranteed a starting spot.
Interestingly for Liverpool fans, there was also some interesting news about a potential new arrival. Klopp has of course been linked with a host of players he managed during his time with Borussia Dortmund but it's a player no longer at the Westfalenstadion that appears to be at the top of Klopp's hitlist.
Smith wrote: "Benteke among those who'll be made available in summer. Mignolet not guaranteed No 1. #LFC still interested in Götze, Udinese's Zielinski"
Mario Gotze is now with Bayern Munich but hasn't had the impact at the Allianz Arena that he would have liked, and that could well open up the door to a switch to Anfield.
Smith also reports that Polish midfielder Piotr Zieliński is also a target in the summer transfer window. Before then however, Liverpool must focus on their remaining nine games of the Premier League season - as well as their Europa League quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund.
Who do you think Liverpool need to sell in the transfer window this summer?
