Cristiano Ronaldo had a night to forget as Portugal went down by one goal to nil at the hands of Bulgaria on Friday night.
The Real Madrid superstar failed to inspire his country despite being handed the opportunity to level the scores from the penalty spot.
Bulgaria goalkeeper, Vladislav Stoyanov, produced a sublime performance throughout the contest and was on hand to save Ronaldo's spot kick.

In fact, Ronaldo was even handed a shot at redemption when the ball came back to him, but he failed to properly connect and his attempt went the wrong side of the post.
Incredibly, Ronaldo has now missed two penalties in the space of a week after missing one for Real Madrid against Sevilla.
It's safe to say that Stoyanov frustrated the former Manchester United star throughout, making a number of fine saves during the course of the 90 minutes. It was most definitely a dream debut for Brazilian-born Marcelinho, who netted the winner for Bulgaria.
Portugal have it all to do
Ultimately, though, it appears that Portugal have a great deal to do as they continue to prepare for Euro 2016.
Despite having Ronaldo on board, as a team, they still appear to be a long way off the elite nations in Europe. If they are going to make an impact in France, then they will have to quickly adjust.
“We are not satisfied with the result. We started brilliantly. In the first 15 minutes we were strong, consistent and the goalkeeper make some fantastic saves; and then we lost some concentration,” said Portugal coach, Fernando Santos, as per The Guardian.
