Dimitri Payet’s remarkable free-kick for France against Russia was easily the best goal of Tuesday night.

A minute after coming on as a second-half substitute, the West Ham star curled in a magnificent 35-yard effort which left Russia’s Igor Akinfeev absolutely no chance.

Amongst the 65,000-strong crowd inside the Stade de France were a few fans who took the opportunity to film Payet’s moment of magic on their phones - and you can see the brilliant footage by scrolling down this page.

Supporters who record match footage on their phones often get a bad rap; however, without them, the rest of us wouldn’t be able to witness clips like this.

It provides a taste of how fans inside the stadium saw the goal - and the unique footage can look even more impressive than the television replays.

Payet has impressed Deschamps

Payet, who was celebrating his 29th birthday on Tuesday, is now likely to be part of the France squad for this summer’s European Championships.

The attacking midfielder also impressed in France’s 3-2 win over the Netherlands last Friday and was praised by Les Blues’ head coach Didier Deschamps after the match.

“He confirmed with us what he has been doing with his club,” Deschamps was quoted as saying by the Guardian. “Every time he touched the ball, he made something happen. He has enormous qualities and made a massive effort. He is on top form.”

Payet is contracted to West Ham until 2021

Interest from Europe’s big clubs is sure to increase if Payet, who has scored eight goals and registered nine assists in the Premier League this term, impresses at Euro 2016.

However, West Ham can rest easily knowing that Payet is contracted to the Hammers until 2021 after signing a contract extension last month.

Understood to now be earning £125,000-a-week - per the Mirror - Payet has easily been one of the Premier League’s standout players and must be a serious contender for the player of the year award.

“I don’t see better players than him,” West Ham boss Slaven Bilic was quoted as saying by the Mirror after the Frenchman inspired his club to a 5-1 win over Blackburn in February. “On the ball, he is there with Luka Modric from the players I have trained so far. Dimitri is one of the best I have trained.

“It’s hard to be surprised and I will have to get some poetry lessons to describe his importance to us!

“It’s not only what he does with the ball and it’s not only me who says give Payet the ball - the players say it as well. The team recognise what he does.”
