Antonio Conte, the man tasked with restoring Chelsea to its previous heights, has a job on his hands. The Italian has previously rebuilt Juventus but the prospect of revamping this Chelsea squad is a completely different one.
Despite languishing in mid-table this year, Chelsea were champions last season, so Conte knows that he only needs to look for certain weaknesses rather than give the squad a complete makeover. One place he could start at is the midfield, especially the defensive midfield where Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic have both looked suspect at times.
The Spaniard has lacked the creativity that he showed last season, as he finished top of the assist standings, whereas Matic has lacked the bite that made him stand out.

Caught out too many times on the break, Chelsea’s aging backline has faced the pressure of their failing defensive midfield.
While John Obi Mikel has come in stabilized the side, he certainly lacks the ability to play the killer pass from deep or even dictate play for longer spells.
The Chelsea squad, it seems, is crying out for a box-to-box midfielder. Someone with the know-how about when to burst forward and when to sit back and dictate play or defend.
This is when Radja Nainggolan comes in.
Usually played alongside Miralem Pjanic in the AS Roma midfield, the 27-year-old's ability to defend has been well showcased, but while the Bosnian controls the tempo, Nainggolan's eye for a goal or a killer pass has not gone unnoticed.
The Belgian's athleticism is bound to come in handy in the more physical Premier League, but with Chelsea missing out on Champions League football next season, convincing the midfielder could be a task.
So while Paul Pogba might be the dream signing for Chelsea, Radja Nainggolan is the player they should be aiming for now.
