Piotr Zielinski could be arriving at Anfield in the summer.

The Polish midfielder is wanted by Jurgen Klopp as the German looks to stamp his identity on the Liverpool squad and, after recently admitting it would be a dream to alongside Philippe Coutinho, Zielinski has dropped another hint that a move from Udinese appears probable.

In an interview with Polish publication Sportive Fakty, the 21-year-old has confirmed that talks with Klopp have taken place.

The report, brought to our attention by 101GreatGoals, comes days after the midfielder admitted he has spoken to former Borussia Dortmund attacker Jakub Blaszczykowski about what it’s like to work with the Liverpool boss.

Zielinski, currently on loan at Empoli, is a fine box-to-box player and would complement Emre Can perfectly in Liverpool’s midfield.

He told Sportive Fakty: “There is a lot of truth in rumours about Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp is interested in me, we had some talks. I’m not thinking too much about it right now though.”

Liverpool fans will get a glimpse of the Pole at this summer’s European Championship and he is looking forward to showcasing his talents.

He added: “I’ve still got few games to play for Empoli and after that there is still the Euros in France.”

The Klopp factor

Zielinski hasn’t held back from openly discussing a move to Liverpool - whether that’s a good thing or not remains to be seen - but it’s clear that the idea of working with Klopp intrigues him.

Liverpool appointed the former Dortmund boss in October and one bonus, besides his tactical prowess, is his appeal to potential targets.

Mario Gotze has been linked with the Reds and it has been reported that Klopp’s influence might just sway the wantaway Bayern Munich star’s thinking.

And Zielinski has been quick to learn more about the manager described as “crazy” by his own players.

“Some people say these are just the rumours,” he told Polish website Futbolfejs.pl, per the Liverpool Echo. “I know a little bit more about it.

“But until now I just try to play as best as I can in Empoli to have a possible chance in June for such a big transfer move.

“I have spoken with Kuba [Błaszczykowski] who plays in Fiorentina now about Klopp.

“He told me about his personality, how is Klopp to the players, gave me some tips, but nothing is known yet. I constantly have to play well in Empoli to get the interest from the bigger clubs."

And it’s not just the thought of teaming up with a Bundesliga winner that appeals to Zielinski, either.

Coutinho appeal

“Everyone knows Coutinho who is very technically gifted,” the midfielder added. “He can shoot with either foot, no matter if it’s left of right. I think I have something in common with him. Coutinho is fast, he creates the game on the pitch.”
