Jamie Vardy’s rise from non-league sensation to Premier League predator is a story well worth telling, perhaps that’s why rumours of it being turned into a feature film refuse to go away.
Yes, Jamie Vardy: The Movie looks destined for the big screen, with the striker’s exploits during a year when Leicester City might orchestrate arguably the biggest shock ever seen in English football having garnered international attention.
The Vardy biopic
As with all errr…great films-to-be, a degree of emphasis has been put on who might be cast in the main roles for the biopic if it does get the go ahead to be produced.
There have already been rumours abound that Vardy himself will be portrayed by One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson, whilst former footballer Vinnie Jones is rumoured to be in line to play Vardy’s former Leicester manager Nigel Pearson.
There’s one role that hasn’t been discussed too much, however, and that’s that of Claudio Ranieri. The ex-Chelsea manager has been an immeasurably important factor in the Foxes’ rise from relegation fodder to the Premier League’s champions elect, and so it can be assumed he’ll feature heavily in any film that’s made surrounding Vardy.
Ranieri himself was asked who he would have portraying him in a Vardy-centric flick. His answer? Robert De Niro.
"I heard something about that. Why not? He’s a fantastic actor," Ranieri said, according to The Sun.
De Niro the man?
Apparently it’s in Ranieri’s character to aim for the stars, which is why De Niro is no real surprise. On top of that he boasts Italian ancestry, so one would assume getting ready for the role would prove no monumental challenge.
Football fans, we want to know if you think Ranieri is on the right track? Who do you think should play the 64-year-old? Who should play Vardy and Nigel Pearson? Leave thoughts in the comments box below.
