Laura Robson's hopes of competing in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart were dashed by a straight-sets defeat to France's Oceane Dodin in the second round of qualifying.
The 22-year-old was unable to build on an impressive win over Klara Koukalova on Saturday and fell to a 6-2 6-2 loss to Dodin - ranked 151 in the world - on the German clay.
The result represents another setback in Robson's frustrating comeback from wrist surgery two years ago, with the Briton winning just three matches all year.
Robson used her protected WTA ranking of 58 to earn automatic entry into next month's French Open at Roland Garros last week, meaning she will be one of seven Britons in the first-round draw.
British number one Johanna Konta takes her automatic place in the main draw at Stuttgart and will play Anna-Lena Friedsam in the first round.
