Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas may well have endured a torrid season at Stamford Bridge, but he managed to impress the watching nation on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football.

The Spaniard, alongside Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, was cool, calm and collected in front of the cameras as he discussed a number of football's hottest topics.

During the show, the former Arsenal man opted to name his Premier League team of the season - and it's hard to disagree with his picks...

In goal, Fabregas went for Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea over Leicester City star Kasper Schmeichel.

When discussing his choice, as per the Daily Mail, the ex-Barcelona midfielder stated: "It wasn't a simple selection, because I think Kasper Schmeichel has done brilliantly and he deserves to be there as well, but De Gea has saved so many points at the end of the season for Man Utd. God knows how many."

Fabregas opted for a back-four of Hector Bellerin, Toby Alderweireld, Robert Huth and Ryan Bertrand.

The dynamic midfielder hailed Arsenal ace Bellerin, claiming that he enjoys the full-back's style of play. He continued by saying: "I like the way he plays. He's very fast and when players take him on he's fast to recover. He's confident on the ball, and moves forward creating chances."

Brilliant Mahrez

In midfield, the Spain international selected Riyad Mahrez, N'Golo Kante, Dele Alli and Dimitri Payet. It was slightly surprising, however, that Fabregas decided to overlook Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil.

Unsurprisingly, Fabregas singled out Mahrez for special praise, claiming that the Algerian international makes things happen for Leicester City.

He stated: "I'd have to go for Mahrez (for player of the season) because he makes things happen for Leicester through the whole season.

"You can say the same about many players, like Vardy and Kane... so many players - but the way Leicester are playing, it has to be a talented player like Mahrez."

Sunderland v Leicester City - Premier League

The England duo of Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy were placed up front in Fabregas' ultimate Premier League team of the season.

England v Netherlands - International Friendly

In truth, it's a very strong side and it's not exactly surprising that the technically gifted midfielder failed to name any Chelsea players in his team. Fabregas and co. have been below-par throughout the course of the campaign and will be desperate to make amends next term.

Fabregas XI

Here's his team in full:

David de Gea; Hector Bellerin, Toby Alderweireld, Robert Huth, Ryan Bertrand; Riyad Mahrez, N'Golo Kante, Dele Alli, Dimitri Payet; Jamie Vardy, Harry Kane.
