WWE legend mocks Man United in Leicester City rallying call

Published Add your comment

Leicester City's rise to the summit of the Premier League during the 2015/16 season has catapulted the East Midlands side onto the world stage.

The Foxes' transformation from relegation candidates into champions elect over the past year or so has seen fans from across the world jump on board the Leicester bandwagon.

The latest high-profile name to pin their colours to the Leicester mast might just be the most random yet, however. That's after legendary WWE wrestler Ric Flair delivered a rallying call for Claudio Ranieri's men this week - taking a shot at Manchester United in the process.

"Boys," the now retired 'Nature Boy' began during an appearance on BBC Radio Five Live this week. "I heard it is 1-in-500-million, that's the odds of you guys winning. Is that pretty close?

"You've come this far, you've walked that aisle, you've played and beaten the best. Bring it! Don't look back just look forward."

Flair, who, as a 16-time world champion in WWE/WWF, knows a thing or two about winning is known as one of wrestling's finest trash talkers and couldn't help but fire off a shot at Manchester United.

"Manchester United, if you're up next, you got no game guys...Leicester City all the way, Wooo!"

Crucial few weeks

United, of course, are one of just four teams left for Leicester to play this season, and their May 1 meeting at Old Trafford could go a long way to determining City's chances of claiming the Premier League title.

Sitting five points ahead of second-placed Tottenham, Leicester's fate is in their own hands as the climax to the campaign approaches.

However, having just lost the talismanic Jamie Vardy to suspension at the weekend after his red card and subsequent comments to referee Jon Moss, perhaps an unorthodox pep talk from a WWE legend is exactly what the team needs to help push them over the line.

Leicester City v West Ham United - Premier League

In a season that has had more than its fair share of odd moments, it doesn't even seem that strange.

As for Flair's put down of United, there will be plenty of their fans who probably agree with the 67-year-old American's assessment of their team.

Although Louis Van Gaal's side has won five of their last seven Premier League games and secured a place in the F.A. Cup semi-finals in recent weeks, there remains a large amount of skepticism about the current squad.

Is is, of course, unlikely Ric Flair had any idea about any of that when championing Leicester's cause this week. Nevertheless, the ageing former wrestler might have just hit the nail on the head.
