Mamadou Sakho won't be able to play for Liverpool whilst UEFA investigate a possible violation of anti-doping rules, according to reports.
The Independent are claiming that the French defender has tested positive for a banned substance and so won’t be part of the match-day squad for the Newcastle clash this weekend.
Early indications from French newspaper RMC speculate that Sakho consumed a ‘fat-burning’ substance for personal and therapeutic use and that it had been agreed by both club and player.
It's no doubt a huge blow for Liverpool, with the 26-year-old having become a vital component in Jurgen Klopp's side this year.
The club themselves have now released a statement, clarifying that whilst Sakho hasn't been officially suspended from duty, he won't be included in any squad while the process is being followed.
