It's been quite a big week for NXT, as they had a change of champion during a house show in Lowell, Massachusetts, on Thursday night.
Samoa Joe defeated Finn Balor at the live event to become the NXT Champion for the first time in his WWE career. The two had originally clashed for the title back at NXT TakeOver: Dallas on WrestleMania weekend, but it was the Irishman that came out on top in that result.
However, entering this week, it looks like it was no joke, and the former TNA man will be the NXT Champion until the foreseeable future. This result sparked rumors as to when Balor will be called up to the main roster, so it is easy to forget about the talented man that actually won at the house show in Lowell.

Former WWE commentator Jim Ross commented on Joe's title win and provided some good comments on when the two clashed almost a month beforehand at NXT TakeOver: Dallas. He also revealed who he'd like to see the new NXT Champion face when he makes his WrestleMania debut hopefully in a year's time.
Ross said on his blog: “Congrats to Samoa Joe for winning the NXT Title from Finn Balor. I saw their match in Dallas, and it was an old school, fundamentally sound pro wrestling match that made me proud to be in the business. Joe will be a great opponent for Brock Lesnar (at WrestleMania 33).”
Samoa Joe vs Brock Lesnar at the Orlando Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida on April 2 next year certainly would be a sight to behold, and he would put up a fair fight as well. He has the in-ring talent, and the promo skills to hold his own against one of the best in the company. He's a big guy as well, so hopefully the WWE can book him right to make it look like he has a chance of winning if the clash happens.
Only time will tell however if the match will ever take place as Joe was originally only brought into WWE to be a veteran guy in NXT.
Some did think due to Joe losing at NXT TakeOver: Dallas, he would be making the jump to the main roster soon, but that hasn't happened yet. Now he has the championship, it is looking more likely that Balor will make the move instead while the former TNA star headlines WWE's developmental division.
Ross also listed Cesaro, Kevin Owens, and Bray Wyatt as possible opponents for The Beast next year, who will all put on good fights as well. We'll just have to wait and see as to who gets the nod to face arguably one of the most dominant WWE superstars of all time at The Showcase of The Immortals in 2017.
