First of all let me state Finn Balor deserves a lot of credit for what he's done during his time with the WWE. His work in the ring and his portrayal of ‘The Demon’ side of his character, which he uses for title defences at TakeOver events, make him a rather unique superstar within the company.
However, as he admitted in his appearance at last year’s SummerSlam NXT Fan Panel, his promos need serious work. Flat, monotone delivery, not looking at the camera, no decent one-liners – that’s a typical Finn promo.
When ‘The Demon’ is then unleashed for the big events it doesn’t require any mic work, and Finn’s facials and body language convey the difference very well; it’s a great piece of character work.

What should ideally happen is that the Irishman’s non-Demon persona should be made to show more of a contrast, and the best way to do this would be to introduce more of the man’s real life characteristics.
He’s a genuinely witty guy on his Twitter account.

See the image he tweeted of himself doing the DX crotch chop outside TNA’s headquarters in Nashville, for example.
The man’s got balls. When TNA’s Matt Hardy tweeted back to him that he should have come to see the show, Finn replied with a photo of himself standing in an empty field, writing that he had more important things to do. Ouch. That is a brutal put-down.
If he were to bring his real life humour onto TV this would also serve to contrast with ‘The Demon’ character even more.
See him on live events joining in with Sami Zayn’s dancing or hugging Bayley or serenading the crowd with a rendition of Danny Boy. That’s a man entirely comfortable in his skin and on the microphone, right there.
Not saying it should be this exactly, but this is a potential way to go with Finn’s on screen character.
He could be like NXT’s version of Peter Parker, cracking wise at his opponents and then beating them up in the ring. He really needs to crack this before he joins the main roster.
