After an incredible 292 day run as NXT Champion, a run that is the longest in the title's short history after he surpassed Neville's 287 day record, Finn Balor dropped the Championship to Samoa Joe at an NXT live event in Lowell, Massachusetts last wee.
Whilst this seems like a rushed decision since Finn could be nursing another ankle injury, there could also be a method behind WWE's reasoning.
Could WWE have been planning this all along? Is this the reason WWE decided to switch Payback and Extreme Rules this year? Could Finn Balor be the one who deserves Payback?

Whilst Finn still technically has his rematch against Samoa Joe, he also has something of a problem with AJ Styles.
The current number one contender to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship replaced Finn Balor in The Bullet Club after Finn left to join WWE. Styles in turn also left the Bullet Club when he too received the call from the biggest company in the world.

The Bullet Club seem to have remained loyal to AJ Styles instead of their other former friend and WWE could create an incredible rift between the two of them next weekend.
FINN BALOR INTERFERENCE?
Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson have already declared that they will be in AJ Styles' corner next Sunday night which means that Roman Reigns needs an equalizer, which many of the WWE Universe thought was going to be his cousins The Usos.
Anderson and Gallows attacked The Usos on their debut and the two brothers will be out for revenge, but The Demon's revenge on The Bullet Club and AJ Styles could be a much better story to tell.
This is just a theory, Finn could also make his debut and align himself with his former stable, but he has never been a part of the group at the same time as Styles, so it would be interesting to see how they co-exist.
Vince has wanted to bring Balor to the main roster for a long time but Triple H has refused to allow him to leave NXT since he has been essentially running the company since he won the Championship at last year's Best in the East event.
As a result, any debut that Finn does make will be an epic encounter and a long-time coming.
