Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kiev involved in mass brawl

We’ve seen a crazy amount of fights on a football pitch this week.

There were two separate incidents in Turkey of officials being attacked while in Wales, a mass brawl broke out during a match between Cefn Druids and Caernarfon Town amongst players and fans.

But the craziest one occurred in the Ukrainian Premier League between Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kiev.

Former Arsenal striker had just put Shakhtar 3-0 up when the away side took exception to the goal celebrations.

What ensured what a quite ridiculous fight between both sets of players and officials.

There was a kick, a lot of pushing, a few punches thrown and a flare added for good measure during the next 60 seconds or so.

As you’d expect, plenty of cards were shown following the incident - including three red cards.

It’s no wonder that tempers were running high during the match. Shakhtar’s 3-0 victory meant they closed the gap to just four points to Dynamo Kiev with two matches remaining in the league.


Shakhtar’s attentions will now focus on their Europa League campaign. They draw the first-leg at home to Sevilla 2-2 so will need a positive result in Spain in order to progress to the final in Basel on May 18.

They’ll be hoping the tie against the Spaniards is a bit more like a football match rather than a wrestling event.
