The Vaudevillains were supposed to be the #1 contenders.

The Vaudevillains were supposed to win at Payback

Published 2 Comments

Last night at Payback, the WWE Universe was rocked by a horrific injury to Enzo Amore that brought the first match of the night to a premature end.

Enzo and his partner Big Cass were taking on the Vaudevillains in a match to decide who will be the new number one contenders for the New Day's Tag Team Championships.

A scary incident

A botched Irish whip would see Amore slide into the ropes face first before falling to the floor in an almost lifeless state.

The concern at ringside was clear right away as his tag partner Big Cass came running to his aid, the onlooking New Day quickly rose from their seats and the referee instantly signalled for medical assistance.

Prior to the incident, the two former NXT teams put on a very entertaining match but everyone was left wondering what will happen with the Tag Team Titles now?

While that issue was addressed on RAW tonight, the original plans for the match have been revealed.

It is believed that the Vaudevillians were set to defeat Enzo and Cass and earn themselves a match against the New Day.

That theory has now become a reality as the Vaudevillians have been confirmed to challenge the New Day at Extreme Rules.

It is however, also believed that outside interference from the Dudley Boyz would cost Enzo and Cass their title shot.

A tweet from Bubba Ray Dudley following Amore's release from hospital seems to confirm the theory too:

Even with Enzo missing, tonight's RAW saw some major developments in these feuds that are sure to be on our screens a lot heading to Extreme Rules.

New challengers

The New Day came out on RAW tonight and reviewed the incident with Enzo and confirmed that they will be there waiting for his return before being interrupted by their new challengers.

The idea for challengers from the 1800s against champions who dressed as Dragon Ball Z characters at WrestleMania 32 clearly shows a lot of promise.
