This week on Monday Night Raw, Rusev became the number one contender to the United States Championship after he last eliminated Zack Ryder to win the impromptu battle royal.
This is fantastic news for fans of the former League of Nations member because it means that he could be set for another push to the main event of the company.
It seems that the plans could be for WWE to rehash the rivalry that the duo had around WrestleMania last year over the same Championship.

PERFECT RETURNING RIVALRY?
John Cena confirmed on Twitter last week that he was returning to WWE TV on the May 30th Memorial Day episode which will be the second episode of Raw following Extreme Rules, although as yet it is unknown what kind of role Cena will be playing in the company, it has been confirmed to be full time.
Rusev is currently looking for a new path to take after he parted ways with his League of Nations team mates last week on Smackdown, and it seems that this could be the ideal way for WWE to allow the title to become prestigious again.
After Ryback and Kalisto's back and forth over the Championship in recent months, it seems that the title has lost something and this could be the best way for WWE to bring it back.
RUSEV'S BIG PUSH?
Since Rusev dropped the Championship to Cena he has been on something of a downfall, Ruse was undefeated for almost a year when he first debuted on the main roster but it was Cena that brought it all to an end.
These two may have given their all when this rivalry was first made but it seems that both could still have much more to give and now that Lana has proven that she is capable to being in the ring as well, she could play a bigger part in this second wave.
Not only that, but if the feud was to run long enough then Cena could also bring in the services of his girlfriend and former Divas Champion Nikki Bella as an equalizer to the threat of Lana, which would only serve to help this feud further. Either way, the United States Championship deserves to be on the main show of pay-per-views and with Kalisto as Champion this has failed, which sadly means the Championship needs to change hands.
