Published 6 Comments

Lucas Vasquez was extremely lucky to stay on the field of play as Real Madrid progressed to the Champions League final with a 1-0 win over Manchester City.

The Spanish winger, as you can see in the video below, produced a horror tackle on England international Raheem Sterling, who thankfully got back to his feet.

Vasquez went studs up on Sterling and caught him in the shin but was only handed a yellow card by the match official.

The Real Madrid ace was certainly lucky to remain on the pitch and will now be available for the final of the competition.

That's because Real just about got over the line at the Bernabeu. Zinedine Zidane's side were by no means at their best, but they produced the required performance to overcome the Citizens.

Real in the final

Gareth Bale's deflected goals separated the two sides on a nervy encounter in Madrid. The returning Cristiano Ronaldo didn't quite look at full fitness, but he still played an important role in the victory.

City's elite players, however, failed to really get going and should leave Spain disappointed. Ultimately, the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and co. just weren't at it for Manuel Pellegrini's side.

Real, then, have set themselves up for another Champions League final against Madrid rivals Atletico. Ronaldo and co. beat them back in 2014 after a thrilling contest that went all the way to extra time and they will be well aware that they will have to be at their best once again to claim the prize for the 11th time.

It certainly looks set to be quite the final and both sides will be confident of claiming the big-eared trophy next month.
