The current WWE Champion is not getting much appreciation from the fans these days, despite having gold around his waist.
The backstage plan is to present Reigns as the ultimate superhero. However, the fans boo the hell out of him.
Here are some reasons why Roman is not ‘The Guy’ as far as the WWE Universe is concerned.

Predictability & Timing
The modern day crowd is smart enough to predict the outcome of matches. Last year’s Royal Rumble match is an example of this. The entire script was to make Roman look strong and the crowd was aware of it.
It hardly is a case that an exciting event such as the Royal Rumble ends up with nasty chants. Even the people’s champ, The Rock, couldn’t save the day on that particular occasion.
This year’s WrestleMania was one quality display. On the contrary, the crowd showed exactly what they think when Roman was victorious against Triple H.
The 30-year-old was once a bright prospect, and finished as runner-up in 2014 Royal Rumble match, which was much appreciated by the crowd.
His Shield days were indeed a treat to watch. At this point, WWE had so many chances to turn him heel or change his character but, they continued with the same gimmick way too often.
The Next John Cena
Every person who is a WWE stakeholder realizes the fact that Cena is no more a fan favorite. Why is that? Because his character has stayed the same for over a decade and he's become stale.
A few years back, the WWE decided to follow the superhero kind of storyline with Roman Reigns and it just didn't go down well at all with the fans.
People want to see someone ruthless and a fighting machine as the face of the industry, not another John Cena.
Lack of Moves and Microphone skills
Similar to John Cena, Roman Reigns gets beaten the entire match and ends up winning with a superman punch and a spear. There are not enough moves in his arsenal, which clearly isn’t going too well with the fans.
Unfortunately for Reigns, it's not only his moves that are an issue.
When it comes down to mic skills, Roman needs to take a page out of Cena’s book. He evidently lacks charisma when cutting promos. He tends to keep it short and follows the same trend most of the times, which is why the majority of the fans find him boring.
Stealing the spotlight?
This particular era of WWE, where talent is nourished through NXT and other international signings, Roman is surely not a deserving champion.
People like Kevin Owens, Cesaro and AJ Styles are far better in every department. They put on better matches, they are better on the mics and they all get bigger pops than Reigns, and pops they are also meant to get.
No doubt on Roman’s abilities, but clearly his handling is going in the wrong direction, which shows lack of plan B behind the scenes.
