Wojciech Szczesny has insisted that AS Roma teammate Radja Nainggolan is perfect for the Premier League and that he would sign him in a heartbeat if he was Chelsea manager.
The Belgium midfielder has been hotly tipped to join the Blues this summer when Antonio Conte takes charge at Stamford Bridge - numerous reports have him pegged as being the Italian’s most likely primary target.
Szczesny hails Nainggolan
Szczesny, who is currently on loan at Roma from Arsenal, has admitted that Nainggolan would make for a great signing by an English club although he hopes his teammate stays.
“He’s definitely a fantastic fit for English football – he’s very strong, physical and tough," Szczesny told FourFourTwo.
"He’s not afraid of anyone and he will fight for 90 minutes in every game. Combine that with very advanced technical skills and you have a complete player.
“If I was Chelsea manager, I’d buy him in a heartbeat. But I hope it’s not the case and that he’ll stay with us.”
Good business for Conte?
Indeed, it can be assumed that Nainggolan arriving would represent smart business from Conte when he takes the helm at Chelsea. The 28-year-old has established himself as a key player at Roma - at £31million he’s not going to break the bank either.
What’s more, only last month did Roma director Mauro Baldissoni confirm that there were no indispensable players at the Stadio Olimpico, and Nainggolan has hinted in the past that he would be open to a new challenge should the right proposition come along.
Szczesny unlikely to return
As for Szczesny, it’s unlikely he’ll return to Arsenal this summer. The Polish international has expressed a desire to remain in Rome for another season on loan, although his ultimate aim is to take the number one shirt back from Petr Cech at the Emirates Stadium.
Football fans, what do you think? Is Szczesny ever going to be Arsenal’s goalkeeper again? Is Nainggolan going to move to Chelsea?
