The Sun’s report claiming Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather will meet in a boxing ring has many doubters.

The newspaper claims the boxer, widely considered as the greatest ever, and the UFC star are on the verge of agreeing a “billion dollar mega-fight”.

And though many scoffed at the article, McGregor has posted a cryptic picture on Facebook that seems to suggest the fight may be going ahead.

The Notorious posted an image of the pair squaring off with the caption, ‘MMA Vs Boxing.’, and it immediately had people wondering whether two of the biggest names in the fighting industry are actually planning to go head-to-head.

We’re still going to wait for an official announcement but McGregor’s post is interesting to say the least. A source inside the Irishman’s camp reportedly denied The Sun’s report, so it’s interesting for McGregor to hint that the fight is happening.

Mayweather’s father also believes the fight will happen. Floyd Mayweather Sr., his son’s trainer, is quoted by the Mirror as saying: “I'm very sure he'll [Floyd] be fighting when it's time. He told me he was going to take another fight against some MMA fighter.”

And it typical boxing style, Mayweather Sr. is predicting a short fight.

“We don't care about that man,” he continued. “We'll beat the hell out of that man.

“I haven't seen the guy but all I got to do is take a good look at him and I can tell you my son can whoop him. He's dead. He's a dead man.”

Eye-watering figures

The Sun reported on Friday that an announcement is likely in the coming weeks, with both sides still discussing the financial figures involved.

Apparently Mayweather, whose nickname is ‘Money’, will pocket £100 million, while McGregor will make £7m.

The current featherweight champion’s next UFC fight isn’t yet known after he was pulled from the UFC 200 card, so he’s got some time to work on those boxing skills.
