The Gunners were second best throughout and were fortunate that Wilfried Bony’s volley in the 88th minute hit the crossbar.
Injury to Mesut Ozil meant the Frenchman was forced to reshuffle his team but it was a second-half substitute he made that really riled Arsenal fans.
Theo Walcott had scored once in his previous seven games but Wenger’s hand was somewhat forced due to Alex Iwobi’s disappointing display.
Still, his arrival not long after De Bruyne gave City the lead didn’t please Arsenal supporters, as the reaction on Twitter shows.
Manchester United can capitalise
The draw leaves the door open for Manchester United to book their place in next season’s Champions League.
If Louis van Gaal’s side win their remaining two games, against West Ham and Bournemouth, they will join Leicester in next season’s tournament.
In what has been the most memorable Premier League season in recent history, United pipping City to a Champions League spot despite all their troubles this season would go a long way to pleasing the Old Trafford faithful, even despite the impending arrival of Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.
