Barcelona agree deal to bring Denis Suarez back from Villarreal

Published 4 Comments

Barcelona have activated the buy-back clause in the contract of Denis Suarez, who will return to the Camp Nou in time for the 2016-17 campaign.

This is according to Catalan newspaper Sport, who understand Suarez will become Barcelona’s first official signing of the summer.

The 22-year-old has impressed at Villarreal this season, scoring five goals in 45 appearances for the Yellow Submarine, and Barcelona have decided to pay the €3.25 million required to bring him back to club he left on a permanent transfer last year.

Suarez has impressed this season

The skilful winger was loaned to Sevilla for the 2014-15 campaign and made 47 appearances in all competitions for the Andalusian outfit but Luis Enrique was unable to guarantee him first-team football at Barcelona.

Aware of his talent and potential, the reigning European champions ensured a buy-back clause was inserted into Suarez’s four-year deal with Villarreal.

Huge blow for Villarreal

The news will come as a major blow for Marcelino’s men, who have qualified for next season’s Champions League campaign.

Suarez has played in all but five of Villarreal’s La Liga fixtures this term and also starred in the club’s run to the Europa League semi-finals.

Will he play much next season?

While the prospect of rejoining Barcelona will no doubt excite the youngster, he could be forgiven if he felt a little anxious about the move.

Villarreal CF v FC Barcelona - La Liga

Enrique won’t be able to guarantee him a start in Barcelona’s first-choice starting line-up - unless Neymar was sold, which seems very unlikely as things stand - and the idea of being used on a rotational basis may concern him.

However, it would appear that he has little say in the matter.
